When you’re having a winter baby, it might seem like your location options for maternity photos are slim, but they don’t have to be! I’ve done maternity sessions in-home, in a studio, and even in a library– but my favorite indoor location in Pittsburgh for maternity photos is at the Carnegie Museum of Art!

Patty & Jen are expecting their baby in February- how exciting! When they reached out to book their maternity session, the three of us brainstormed some ideas for indoor locations in Pittsburgh that would be fun and unique! We all agreed the museum was the perfect location– and it absolutely was!

There’s so many incredible areas within the museum, and you can really play around with angles and depth of field. We spent over an hour there, and their gallery was over 100 photos. That’s pretty standard for an hour session with me, but when you’re indoors, sometimes it can be a little challenging to get enough variety to create that many images!

Don’t get me wrong, I am always glad to take a chance on the ever changing weather here, but sometimes you just want the peace of mind that your location for your session won’t need to change last minute. Especially for maternity photos in Pittsburgh– you don’t want to be eight months pregnant and traipsing through snow or trying to hide from rain!

Patty’s favorite painting at the Carnegie Museum of Art is Monet’s Water Lillies, so we were sure to get some photos in front of that. They also brought a few props along with them! Nothing makes a maternity session better than shoes, sonograms, or a special onesie.

I’d love do more sessions of any kind, and especially a wedding at the museum, so reach out if you’re looking for a photographer in Pittsburgh with a moody, vintage editing style and all the hype for you and your memories!
